Opportunities Introduction to Ascent Classical Academies At Ascent
Classical Academies, our foundational philosophy is rooted in the
comprehensive cultivation of the individual, encompassing both the
intellect and character within a framework of timeless virtues. Our
ethos embodies our dedication to fostering a sense of wonder and
the relentless pursuit of wisdom. This philosophy permeates every
aspect of our institution, from our rigorous academic curriculum to
the harmonious structure of our daily interactions and celebratory
traditions. Ascent Classical Academies embarks on a noble quest,
providing our students a well-rounded American classical education
and guiding them through an enriching exploration of the Great
Books, advanced studies in mathematics and sciences, and the
intricacies of Latin language. We also encourage active involvement
with the wider community, stewardship of the natural world,
immersion in the fine arts, and participation in a variety of
extracurricular clubs and athletic competitions. Beyond academic
rigor, we are committed to nurturing a transformative and vibrant
school culture characterized by joy, mutual respect, and profound
engagement. We are a fellowship of scholars and explorers, united
in our quest for what is truly noble, inviting our students to join
us in a life pursuing the True, Good, and Beautiful, and the
fulfillment of human potential. An education at Ascent Classical
Academies extends beyond mere preparation for college and career;
it is an entreaty to embrace the most enriched life imaginable -
preparing our students to flourish in life and to be good citizens.
Our Core Virtues These are the cornerstone of what we strive to
develop in our students, which are: Courage Moderation Justice
Responsibility Prudence Friendship Wonder Ascent Hiring Philosophy
In alignment with our mission and vision, Ascent Classical
Academies seeks individuals who are not only aligned with our core
virtues but also possess deep subject matter expertise, strength of
character, a love for learning, and a commitment to their
professional and personal growth. We value humility, the pursuit of
excellence, self-discipline, the receptivity to coaching, practical
wisdom, and a strong aptitude for engaging with students.
Leadership in the classroom, a collaborative spirit, a robust work
ethic, and an enthusiastic, positive attitude are the hallmarks of
our team members. Requirements Qualified candidates will have a
strong background in the subject matter, demonstrate high moral
character and embrace the virtues of a democratic society. The
successful candidate will also foster professional friendships with
faculty and staff, seek collaborative relationships with parents,
and mentor students in the pursuit of their own flourishing.
Bachelor's degree or higher For co-curricular subjects (art, music,
physical education), teachers with a bachelor’s degree in the
subject taught are preferred or, at a minimum, 36 hours of higher
education credit in the subject area of instruction After offer is
accepted, satisfactory background check as required by state law
and the South Carolina Department of Education Dedication to the
value of a rigorous liberal arts education Loyalty to the school
and ACA’s mission and vision Commitment to model moral character in
line with the school’s Core Virtues and the pursuit of the Good,
True, and Beautiful Adherence to all ACA policies, including but
not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all
applicable school and board policies Position Specifics The
training up of a student’s soul is enhanced greatly in the study of
the Fine Arts. Whether it be performance or visual arts, students
who dedicate themselves to an arts-based discipline are being
trained for much more than that art alone. Their very soul is being
formed into one that recognizes rhythm, harmony, symmetry, and
decorum in such a way that they would, as Plato stated in book III
of the Republic, “have the sharpest sense for what’s been left out
and what isn't a fine product of craft or what isn't a fine product
of nature." Meaning, these students are much more able to recognize
when something is as it ought to be, or as it ought not be to a
greater degree than students who are not trained in the fine arts.
Not only does the study of the Arts help bring about the formation
of a virtuous soul, but its explicit focus on Beauty makes it one
of the most enriching disciplines for a Classically educated
student. It trains the eye to see Beauty, the mind to understand
Beauty, and the heart to love truly beautiful things. Students of
the fine arts become critical observers of the world around them,
seeking harmony, balance, and loveliness. This training of the
heart and soul is a central reason why students at ACA are exposed
to the Arts throughout grammar school and are required to take a
Fine art Elective in the early Upper School. This position will
require one to be involved in developing the arts program at the
school using the concepts of the Core Knowledge framework, which
will require a background in studio art, art history, and art
appreciation. Duties and Responsibilities Create a safe classroom
