Job Description:

The Department of Clinical Sciences in the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy at High Point University invites applications for up to 4 full-time, tenure-track faculty position in general internal medicine (1-2 positions) and specialty internal medicine (1-2 positions - neurology, nephrology, transplant, pharmacokinetics). The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is selected. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Candidates with prior academic experience are encouraged to apply.

The person in this position is responsible for teaching Pharm.D students, developing an independent, integrated clinical practice and research program and providing service to the School of Pharmacy, University and the greater High Point community. The estimated distribution of effort for this individual at program maturity (i.e., when a full faculty cohort is hired) will be 30-40% research, 30-50% teaching and 20-30% service (clinical and non-clinical). QUALIFICATIONS: Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited school
  • Completion of a pharmacy practice (PGY1) residency with an emphasis in critical care, internal medicine, neurology, nephrology, pharmacokinetics, transplant or the ability to demonstrate equivalent experience in pharmacy practice is required.
  • A specialty (PGY2) residency or fellowship training with an focus in critical care, internal medicine, neurology, nephrology, transplant, pharmacokinetics and additional professional certifications (e.g., BCPS) is highly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with this additional training Experience and Training:
    • 1-2 years of relevant medical or pharmacy academic teaching
    • Eligible for Pharmacy licensure in North Carolina
    • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellence in pharmacy education and research
    • Experience working with students as a faculty mentor or preceptor Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
      • Demonstrated potential to procure extramural research funding and develop an independent research program (highly preferred)
      • Experience developing a clinical practice site and successfully conducting practice-based research (highly preferred)
      • Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills
      • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
      • Skill dealing with a diverse group of people
      • Ability to write scholarly documents
      • Ability to work with and teach using electronic medical records ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
        • Develop, coordinate, and teach content within the HPU School of Pharmacy integrated curriculum as appointed by the Department Chair
        • Provide mentorship and advisement for students in the School of Pharmacy as appointed by Dean’s Office and Department Chair
        • Maintain scholarly activities in therapeutically relevant areas and conduct research in multidisciplinary fashion
        • Provide evidence of actively pursuing or obtaining external funding.. Emphasis to be placed on research projects in collaboration with basic pharmaceutical science faculty and clinical and practice site colleagues
        • Collaborate in the clinical environment with established pharmacists to enhance services through clinical practice, education, research and quality improvement initiatives.
        • Serve as liaison between HPU School of Pharmacy and the Faculty member’s practice site
        • Publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals, produce case reports and present research findings at national and international meetings
        • Integrate and enhance collaborations among the clinical sciences and basic sciences in areas of research, education, and service
        • Advance the service missions of the School of Pharmacy and High Point University to meet community needs. Act as a representative and advocate for the department, both within the University and externally
        • Provide unique targeted clinical assistance when asked.
        • Participate in committees within the department, School, and University and participate in professional and governmental organizations as appointed by Chair
        • Abide by University and School of Pharmacy policies
        • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of Clinical Sciences
        • Utilize ExamSoft® or other software provided by SOP to conduct all SOP assessments
        • Create and administer certificate-training programs in targeted diseases to be used as elective courses.
