ICU/Critical Care RN in Roanoke, Virginia, 24014! Job Title:
Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit
/ Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per
Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
License: Active RN or LPN license (single-state license from a
non-compact state accepted if pending) Certifications: ACLS, BLS,
NIHSS Must-Have: - EPIC charting experience - Comfort with floating
across all ICU and PCU units Description: Position: RN- ICU/PCU
Float. Candidates must be comfortable working in all ICU and PCU
units. Scheduling details include three 12-hour shifts from 6:45 PM
to 7:15 AM. Charting is done using EPIC. Staffing needs may cause
the traveler to float 2-3 times per shift, up to every 4 hours.
Weekend requirement consists of every other weekend or 6 weekend
shifts within a 6-week scheduling block. One holiday must be worked
per 13-week contract. First-time travelers are accepted. Local
candidates must meet a radius rule. Requests for time off, block
scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be included with
submission. The facility may call off one shift per two weeks.
Required clinical skills include: - IV therapy: arterial line
management, central/PICC line care, and blood product
administration - Respiratory support: BiPAP and CPAP management,
ventilated patient care - Medication administration: continuous IV
sedation and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips - Wound
care: surgical wounds with drains or wound vacs - Cardiac
monitoring: dysrhythmia interpretation and management -
Endocrine/metabolic: IV insulin protocol adherence Experience at a
large Level 1 or Level 2 facility is required, with a preference
for candidates with more than 2 years of experience. Average
patient ratios in the PCU are 5:1 and in the ICU are 2:1. This
facility is an acute care teaching hospital and is a
Magnet-designated institution for nursing excellence. It features
advanced specialty care and is certified as an Advanced
Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center. Additional details on staffing
and scheduling include a need to be flexible in floating during
both day and night shifts. Care for adult and geriatrics is
provided, with interdisciplinary support available from various
services. Patient care involves management of specific medical
conditions and procedures, including the use of specialized
equipment. Required skills also include management of dysrhythmias
and adherence to infection prevention protocols. Candidates must
agree to work at least one holiday per 13-week assignment, with
additional considerations for winter holidays. Returning travelers
may be subjected to specific policies regarding eligibility after
