Job Description:

the unique communities we serve. UNC Health Cancer Care/Raleigh
Cancer Center is seeking an Outpatient Oncology Palliative
Physician. This is a newly created position, supporting the
continued growth and expansion of the palliative care program. The
schedule is five days per week, including four clinical days and
one dedicated administrative day. One clinical day may be performed
virtually. Summary: Will provide clinical leadership and expertise
in an outpatient embedded palliative oncology clinic to include
pain and symptom management, assistance with medical decision
making, advanced care planning, and the establishment of goals of
care. Responsibilities: • Provide palliative consultation for
patients and families with cancer to include pain and symptom
management, assistance with medical decision making, advance care
planning, and the establishment of goals of care. • Assist in the
establishment of realistic treatment goals, resuscitation status,
and the benefits and burdens of proposed treatments for oncology
patients. • Provide supervision of the Palliative Care Nurse
Practitioner according to NC State Rule and Regulations and Rex
Healthcare policy. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to
develop and implement individualized care plans for patients on the
Oncology Palliative Care Clinic service. • Conduct and participate
in family meetings to discuss medical decision-making and resolve
conflict. • Assist in the identification of educational needs of
physicians, clinical staff, and support staff regarding palliative
care principles and best practices. • Assist in the development of
policies and evidence-based protocols for clinic program
development. • Provide appropriate documentation of direct patient
care, which will support successful billing for professional
services. • Participate in budget planning to ensure the
sustainability of Oncology Palliative Care Clinic Services.

Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine DEA
Current NC Medical License or ability to obtain an unrestricted NC
Medical License prior to start date Professional Experience
Requirements: Prefer prior experience in hospice and palliative
medicine. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: Language
Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively to patients, visitors, and employees
of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract,
multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to
carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
