Job Description Job Description Schedule: Full time, hourly, non-exempt - 3 nights a week, 7pm-7:30am (32 hours) This position provides direct nursing care to patients in the IPU, their families, interdisciplinary group management, coordination of patient and family services, and evaluation of appropriate hospice care through development of the Hospice plan of care. What are the essential duties day to day? Symptom management Patient Assessment Documentation - assessments, interventions, and updates Develop and coordinate plan of care Educating patients and family members Communicate with our medical providers onsite Average of 6 patients a day Supporting other staff members and team members Training members Supervise CNA services provided to assigned patients Here is what employees in this role have to say! The patients' well being and family is kept as our highest priority. There are usually 2-3 nurses working at a time, averaging 6-8 patients per nurse. We all help the patients and each other. I love that we have a holistic approach for the patients and families, we have a skilled team for the different needs of the patients/families -chaplains, social workers, counselors, etc. Though it is very rewarding work, it also comes with challenges: In hospice care, you are dealing with grief. It is important to find ways to not take the heaviness of it all home with you. Many of our employees find that what helps them on those hard days is to find joy in the fact that they were able to be there to comfort that patient, help them feel cared for, and make a difference in the time they had with them.
