Job Description Wake Forest University School of Medicine is
offering a one-year Fellowship in Wound Care and Hyperbaric
Medicine , beginning July 1, 2026 . This non-ACGME accredited
program, housed within the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery, provides a truly multidisciplinary educational experience.
Fellows will gain exposure to a wide range of specialties,
including infectious disease, vascular surgery, orthopedics,
podiatry, burn care, dermatology, rehabilitation medicine, clinical
nutrition, geriatrics, pain management, and rheumatology, while
participating in both inpatient and outpatient wound care across
four centers. The program also includes rotations in hyperbaric
medicine and emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to
optimize patient outcomes. In addition to clinical training,
fellows are expected to engage in research, either clinical or
laboratory-based, under the guidance of faculty from the Wound Care
Center and associated specialties. Competitive applicants must hold
an MD or DO degree and be board-eligible or certified by an
American Board of Medical Specialties. Physicians from both
surgical and medical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Completion of the fellowship prepares graduates for careers as
wound care specialists and potential medical directors. Salary and

Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship is designed to
prepare physicians for success in the rapidly evolving field of
wound management. Fellows will develop advanced clinical expertise
and leadership skills while working within a multidisciplinary team
dedicated to limb salvage and comprehensive wound care. Program
Goals Train physicians to become future leaders in academic and
community wound care programs. Provide a deep understanding of the
multidisciplinary approach to wound healing and limb preservation.
Foster the ability to critically evaluate and apply current
literature in wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Our fellowship
offers a unique experience within the Department of Plastic
Surgery, serving a broad tertiary referral region across western
North Carolina, southern Virginia, and southern West Virginia. The
program emphasizes collaboration among multiple specialties to
deliver exceptional patient care. Wake Forest operates four wound
care centers, with each center being committed to a team-based
approach and provides comprehensive services, including hyperbaric
oxygen therapy (HBOT). This fellowship offers exposure to
high-volume clinical practice, advanced wound care technologies,
and opportunities for research and scholarly activity.
