Job Description:
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Science, this critical
position is responsible for setting and executing the vision,
implementing strategic initiatives, and coordinating information
technology activities within the College of Science. This position
serves as the college’s primary advisor on technical issues
pertaining to the planning and delivery of the colleges information
technology and services. Providing leadership and technical
expertise regarding the strategic planning, development, and
deployment of technology solutions for the college are integral
responsibilities for this role. The Director of Information
Technology will provide oversight and coordination of IT security
activities, network infrastructure, web application development,
and educational and research technology applications. The director
will coordinate with the Division of IT, provide support and
guidance to the College of Science department IT professionals,
actively participate on the VT IT Council, and serve as a resource
to other on- and off-campus IT professionals. Required
Qualifications Masters degree or relevant training and work
experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.
Management level experience with progressive leadership
responsibilities. Demonstrated technical and administrative
experience. Sophisticated and comprehensive knowledge of multiple
operating systems and mainstream Productivity applications.
Significant experience managing an information technology office to
include its budget, staff, and technology operations. Working
knowledge of computer and network security best practices. Proven
track record of staying informed on the current trends and
practices in IT. Exhibited expertise in troubleshooting and problem
solving. Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher education.
Experience with database development. Significant and progressively
responsible management experience in an information technology
field. Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Appointment Type Regular Salary Information 120,000-135,000 -
Commensurate with experience Hours per week 40 hours per week; may
include overtime as needed Additional Information The successful
candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
